Hey Everyone,

I am selling my classical guitar.

We have to fix dry rot in our bathrooms before we can put our house on the market, and so, the guitar is a luxury item at this point.

Anyway, a fellow from Canada has inquired on shipping charges, and I need help figuring it out. What is the best resource? Would he have to pay a tax on the item? It will sell for about $1500.00 I hope.

Any help is appreciated!

Thank you.

Jeff

Yes he will. It will vary with province but the 7% GST will be standard. Then there are Provincial taxes as well.. in BC it's another 7%. Customs will add this when they process/inspect it as it enters the country.

Don't send it UPS they will gouge him for "Brokering Fees" Send it USPS and package it really well.Jason38555.9439699074

The USPS website has their own packing requirements and I recommend you take a look at them. IF a 1500 dollar guitar gets smashed in the mail they will try and blame it on your packaging before they give up that kind of cash.

The brokerage fee will be $29(US), so under $40CDN. Shipping will run aroun $60 CDN. As has been said, he'll be charged taxes, same as if he purchased it a store.

Use a good case, padd it well, use common sense, and insure it fully(if they break it, you're likley screwed, but if they lose it, you're covered...). Shipping instruments is scary, but it's done every day, with few horor stories. The odds are with you.
